Chicago Sinfonietta Receives National Honors
Joyce grantee’s musical director recognized with League of American Orchestras awards
Still in her first full season with the Chicago Sinfonietta, Maestro Mei-Ann Chen received the bi¬annual Helen M. Thompson Award from the League of American Orchestras. The Sinfonietta, a Joyce Culture Program grantee, also received the ASCAP Award for adventurous programming of contemporary music.
Chen received the award, which is given out once every two years, for her potential for an important national and/or international career. It is one of the top national awards for young conductors.
A grantee since the 1990s, the Chicago Sinfonietta works to remove the barriers to participation in, and appreciation of classical music through its educational and outreach programs that expose children and their families to classical music, and by providing professional development opportunities for young musicians and composers of diverse backgrounds enabling new, important voices to be heard.
Congratulations Chicago Sinfonietta!
