SPECIAL OPPORTUNITIES: Illinois Governor Signs Legislation To Reduce Complexity of Criminal Code

Governor Pat Quinn (D-IL) recently signed a package of bills reducing the complexity and length of the Illinois Criminal Code. Originally presented as recommendations from the CLEAR (Criminal Law Edit, Alignment and Reform) Commission, the legislation removed redundancies, replaced unconstitutional sections, clarified ambiguities and reordered statutes to make them more understandable to the public. Joyce provided support for technical assistance to the CLEAR Commission to develop the policy recommendations. To learn more about the CLEAR Initiative, click here.
