Joyce Foundation Statement Following Supreme Court Ruling on McDonald v. City of Chicago
Today, the U.S. Supreme Court issued its decision in McDonald v. City of Chicago, concluding that the Second Amendment right to possess a handgun in the home for the purpose of self defense applies to state and local governments. The case challenged Chicago’s ban on possession of handguns in the home.
The Joyce Foundation remains committed to the prevention of gun violence through sensible public policies that improve the safety of firearms and restrict access to illegal firearms. We will continue to support our grantees’ efforts to protect the public’s health and safety throughout the region.
