The Painful Truth on Racism: We Need Transformational Change

5/29/2020

Like many across our country and beyond, our hearts are heavy over the unequal and unjust consequences of racism for black people in the United States. Whether it is the most recent evidence of police violence, the ravages of a pandemic or seemingly benign acts of everyday life, the painful truth is that far too many of our friends, neighbors and fellow citizens are unsafe in our country because they are black.

This must change.

The work of the Joyce Foundation has long been rooted in the fundamental principles of humanity. Ensuring that our society is more equitable and just requires transformational change on all our parts.

We are encouraged and inspired by the many people who have marched peacefully and are standing up in other ways to register very real and legitimate outrage over the killing of George Floyd and persistent racial injustices in our country.

We must hear and heed the calls for systemic and structural change and stay focused on the work of making our country more just and equitable.

We remain committed to this work and stand in solidarity with our friends and partners in Chicago, Minneapolis and throughout our region. We are here for you, to work with you to help create the conditions for healing, peace and dignity for all.
