Spread the word!

In recognition of critical work by artists of color, especially during this pivotal moment in our nation’s history, the Joyce Foundation is increasing the amount of its signature Joyce Awards.

The annual prizes will now be $75,000, up from $50,000. In another shift, at least $25,000 of the funds will be dedicated to a stipend for the individual artist.

The application deadline for the next Joyce Awards is September 14, 2020. You can learn more about the application on Joyce’s website.

The Joyce Awards program supports artists of color in major Great Lakes cities, aimed at strengthening cross-cultural understanding by bringing diverse audiences together. The Joyce Foundation, based in Chicago, has awarded $3.7 million to commission 69 new works since the program began in 2003.

View our most recent Joyce Awards webinar which contains details on the application process and features two past awardees, Aparna Ramaswamy of Ragamala Dance Company in Minneapolis and Daniel Gray-Kontar of Twelve Literary Arts in Cleveland, who discussed their experience with the awards.

A video from the 15th anniversary of the awards in 2018 can be found here.

We appreciate your help in expanding awareness of the awards and the webinar with artists of color, arts organizations and community-based organizations in your networks.
