Lilly Athamanah


As Communications Specialist, Lilly manages strategy and implementation of digital and design assets. She also assists on a range of activities, including issues research, project management, media relations, and internal/external communications.

Prior to joining the Foundation in 2016, Lilly was a public affairs trainee at Kivvit, a strategic communications firm headquartered in Chicago. She worked with clients on public affairs initiatives across a variety of sectors including education, government, business, not-for-profit, and culture. Lilly previously was a senior press and communications intern for the Office of Mayor Rahm Emanuel, and worked as a volunteer in local and national political campaigns through the Mikva Challenge "Elections in Action" program.

During her spare time, Lilly volunteers as a writing and resume coach for Posse Scholars through the Posse Foundation’s Chicago chapter, helping students gain skills in critical analysis, argumentative writing, and grammar before beginning their first year in college. She serves as Secretary on Navy Pier's Associate Board, is a member of the Chicago Community Trust's Asian Giving Circle (AGC), Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in Philanthropy (AAPIP), and is a Next Chapter Associate at the Newberry Library in Chicago.

A Chicago native and Posse Alum, Lilly graduated from Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota, the institution in which the Posse Foundation awarded her a full-tuition leadership scholarship to attend. She earned a bachelor’s degree in American Studies.
