The Wisconsin Anti Violence Effort, WAVE, advocates for smart gun policies that protect public health and safety for Wisconsin residents. With Joyce support, WAVE launched the SAFE WISCONSIN public education and community engagement campaign to let businesses know Wisconsinites are supportive of their decisions to prohibit weapons on their premises and limit concealed, loaded weapons in public buildings.
Since the campaign’s launch in 2011, more than 100 cities and counties have acted to keep guns out of public buildings, several major state colleges and universities have prohibited concealed weapons, and scores of local businesses, including hospitals and shopping malls, have barred concealed weapons from their premises.
Research shows that states with strong gun laws experience lower rates of gun death and injury. Supporting the work of WAVE, the Joyce Foundation is working to build awareness about the problem of gun violence in America, and to educate the public, policy makers and the media about common-sense policies that improve public health and safety.
