José B. Alvarez

José B. Alvarez is a clinical professor of business administration at the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth. He is also a visiting senior lecturer at Harvard Business School, where he has served on the faculty since 2009. José conducts research and teaches courses in food systems, board governance, and retailing. He has coauthored more than 30 case studies. José cofounded the executive program Accelerating Board Diversity at Harvard Business School. Prior to his academic career, he spent nearly 20 years in the supermarket industry, culminating in his tenure as president and chief executive officer of Stop & Shop/Giant-Landover. He currently serves on the boards of numerous corporate, nonprofit, and educational organizations, including The TJX Companies, United Rentals, The Joyce Foundation, and Princeton University. José is married with three children.
