Data centers are experiencing unprecedented growth in the US and abroad, and the Great Lakes region is an attractive location in part due to its temperate climate, available energy and fiber optic resources, and relatively modest development costs. The Joyce Foundation seeks to understand and share insights on the challenges and opportunities posed by the expansion of data centers in the Great Lakes region. How can we maximize the economic benefits of data centers, while simultaneously minimizing environmental, social, and financial costs?
During the webinar, The Joyce Foundation and Fresh Coast Climate Solutions shared emerging trends and insights regarding data center investments, technologies, legislation, and research impacting sustainable data center developments in the Great Lakes region. Elizabeth Cisar provided background and goals of the Foundation’s exploration of data center issues. Josh Brugeman and Paul Gruber, both of Fresh Coast Climate Solutions, shared merging trends and insights.
