As the pace of data center development accelerates in the US and in the Great Lakes, communities face decisions about siting, resources, and the environment. The Weldon Cooper Center for Public Service at the University of Virginia will share its analysis of data center growth in the Great Lakes states, a forecast of electricity load associated with that expansion, and the economic and fiscal impacts for the region.
In this webinar, Environment Program Director Elizabeth Cisar provided background and an outline of the Foundation’s goals in exploring the impact of data centers. João Ferreira, William Shobe, Terance J. Rephann, and Matt Scheffel from the Weldon Cooper Center for Public Service shared compelling data on the proliferation of data centers in the Great Lakes Region, including energy demand, use, and forecasts for Great Lakes states; the economic impact of data center growth; and policy recommendations for state and local governments.
